OVERVIEW

The Centre for Research in International Education (the Centre) is a research centre located at AIS St Helens in Auckland, New Zealand.

AIS St Helens is a leading private tertiary educational institution in New Zealand and a pioneer in international education in that country. It was established in 1990 and since then has developed an MBA and programmes in International Business, Language and Culture, and Travel and Tourism. AIS St Helens attracts students from all around the world.

The growing popularity of New Zealand as a location for international education has meant that today there is an intensified interest in understanding the problem and opportunities of international education.

The Centre has been established with the aim to promote a greater understanding of International Education and its importance to New Zealand and the rest of the world.

The Purpose of the Centre

The purpose of the Centre is to promote and conduct research into the social and economic consequences of the internationalisation of education and implications on development. This research field can be defined as including such areas as: the difficulties faced by students studying abroad, determining ways of improving the delivery of English language programmes, the economic consequences of the export of education, problems and opportunities faced by host nations and educational institutions etc. In doing so it is hoped that the Centre will be able to help create a greater understanding and appreciation of International Education as well as dispel some of the misconceptions about it.

The Centre tries to promote a cross fertilisation of ideas and joint work between academics and between academics and industry participants both with AIS St Helens and between that institution and others.
