Call for Papers
As far as possible, individual papers will be grouped in sessions with other papers of similar subject content. Possible sub-strands include (but are not limited to):
- The international classroom
- Teaching the teachers
- Teaching styles and strategies
- Learning styles and strategies
- Innovative delivery modes
- Subject pedagogy
- Internationalisation of the curriculum
- Internationalisation of attitudes in the academic community
- Cross-cultural communication
- Learning context of international students in the community
- Academic support – programme advice, learning support for struggling students
- Fostering international academic links and collaborative research with overseas partner institutions
- Curriculum relevance for international student careers (industry linkages)
Length of presentation: 20 minutes with 10 minutes for discussion and questions.
Language: English only
Deadlines: 31 March 2009 for abstracts
30 April 2009 full papers for refereed stream
17 April 2009 feedback on full refereed papers
29 May 2009 deadline for non-refereed papers
29 May 2009 deadline for resubmission of full refereed papers
Panels, workshops and papers from graduate students are also welcomed.Please submit your paper abstract electronically (MS Word) to the conference email address (christinee@ais.ac.nz )

An abstract of up to 250 words
A brief biography of up to 100 words, including PhD thesis title or ONE major
publication, or similar, to facilitate introduction by the panel chairperson
Panel submissions should also include names of panel co-ordinator, chairperson and discussant
Paper Format
Paper size and Length: The article must be formatted for A4 paper using Microsoft Word (.doc file) and should be a MAXIMUM OF 20 PAGES including references, charts, tables. etc.
Text: Times New Roman, 12 pt, justified, double spaced.
Paper size and margins: A4 paper; 2.5 cm top, bottom, left and right margins.
Title of paper: Times New Roman 14 pt, bold, centered.
Author name and contact details: Immediately below title, one free line above, Times New Roman 12 pt, bold, centered. Give author name, Institution name and email address (If the paper has more than one author, give each author’s details in the same sequence. However, underline the name of the corresponding author).
Abstract: Must be given after the title page; indented 1 cm right and left, italics. Maximum 600 words.
Headings: Major in bold, minor in italics, with one free line above. All in Title Case.
Tables, Charts, Figures, Diagrams: To be included in the paper in the appropriate place and NOT SENT SEPARATELY.
Tables, Charts, Figures, Diagrams Headings: Times New Roman 12 pt, Title Case, Bold.
NO Headers or Footers (except for page numbering).
References: 10 pt Times New Roman, indented 0.5 cm second & subsequent lines, italics (NOT bold) as appropriate, in list at end of paper, as follows:

Keynote Speakers
Prof Konai H Thaman
Professor Thaman is currently Professor of Pacific Education and Culture and holds the UNESCO Chair in Teacher Education and Culture at the University of the South Pacific. She is a member of the Joint ILO/UNESCO Committee on the Recommendation on the Status of Teachers and a Fellow of the Asia Pacific Centre for Education Innovations in Development.
Professor Thaman has researched and published in the fields of Pacific curriculum and teachers, indigenous education and development, women and university management and Pacific research frameworks. She is also a widely read and published poet.
